The Last Baby Bib I'll Ever Buy

The Last Baby Bib I'll Ever Buy

Introducing my new baby bib must-have. The brand is called Make My Day. And let me tell you, it delivers. This puppy is so good I've actually considered throwing away all other bibs!

So if you're like me, every time you pull out a bib to feed the kids you're faced with a gnarly looking bib that you vow will hit the laundry machine immediately following the meal. And then the next meal time rolls around and you're all like, just kidding, forgot about cleaning this thing.

Now, I don't feel like I have particularly messy eaters but as they learn to navigate the utensil to the mouth, or resist the urge to fling their dinner all over the place, their clothes stay mostly clean whereas their bibs seem to get the brunt of the nasty.

The majority of the bibs I’ve purchased (or that come with a cute little clothing gift set) are cloth material with a velcro closure. This presents a few problems. Firstly, cloth doesn’t provide a proper barrier from wetness. Secondly, after a few wash cycles the velcro inevitably pills and looses its stick. And is it just me or does your child yank off their bib quicker than you can get the first scoop of food on the spoon? Who designed these things with velcro??? I swear my hangry boys have hulk strength during mealtime and with velcro you only need a gentle yank and it's off. Again and again, and again. Facepalm.

Despite switching over to the plastic variety that, in theory, can be easily wiped down and repel wetness, these often come with a double layer where one side is still a cloth material (which shrinks in the wash) and then the whole bib doesn’t lie flat.

And the worst offense with these plastic-y bibs is their handy 'kangaroo pouch' at the bottom. What a disgusting germ-trap for swampy leftover scraps that is! And - ICK - my toddler seem to like to save some scraps for later. He will literally pick out grains of rice or scrambled eggs, the following night and snack on the remains. GROSS. NASTY. Plus, possible food poisoning?

Needless to say I've been looking for a better solution, especially with another babe coming up the food chain. So I've finally found a bib that can Make My Day. (see what I did there?)

The specific style I bought is the 'Make My Day Baby Bib Lookin' Dapper - Tuxedo' which can be found by clicking here.

First off, it’s not Velcro! So it actually stays on. I will admit I had concerns that the faux buttons would wear out quickly with the first few uses (read: toddler tugging), but it's built to last. The bib's adjustable straps fit sizes 6 months to 3 years old.

Next, it truly washes clean, and easily! The material is sturdy enough to wipe off with one hand. I figured that getting a black bib was a good idea - in addition to the absolutely adorable design - but I thought that maybe the white portion would likely stain. One of my toddler's favourite meals is pasta and I've yet to see any sauce residue remain after a quick wipe.

The material is wonderfully soft and made of 100% food grade BPA-free silicone, phthalate-free and pvc-free. So I feel just fine scooping up say, yogurt droppings that may have missed it's intended target...or letting the boys eat food (same day, obvi) right off the bib.

The best part - yes this deserves it's own paragraph, and in caps: DISHWASHER SAFE.

Hello convenience! This pretty much guarantees that I will FINALLY once and for all  stay on top of keeping a bib clean and sanitary. Too soon for another facepalm?

Another plus, the 'crumb catcher' pouch in the front actual stays open as part of the *genius* design. Meaning whatever food is caught that day, is caught that day. As an added bonus, you can roll up clean (or more likely in my case, dirty) utensils in there and easily toss it in your diaper bag on the go.

And finally, there are many styles to choose from to show off a little personality, which is where the company name, Make My Day, really delivers. I mean, how cute are these designs?

My only dilemma now, is trying to figure out which one to buy next! Because little brother is definitely going to be getting his own now that this is tried, tested and true.
